2515 S. Congress Ave. - Austin,
TX
Completion - January 2001
Construction Area - 10 Acres
Project Summary:
The Travis County Gardner-Betts Juvenile Center project
consisted of the renovation of courtrooms, administration offices, and intake
areas as well as the construction of a new 27,000-square-foot juvenile detention
building.
Challenge:
The site is nestled in the heart
of South Austin and its location was difficult to design due to
the area constraints inherent with the property. Large elevation
changes, small areas for detention ponds, accessibility issues,
parking availability, and avoiding existing utilities were some
of the challenges particular to this site.
Solution:
Garrett-Ihnen was selected as part of
the project team responsible for the design and construction
of the Gardner-Betts Juvenile Justice Center Improvements.
Project responsibilities included design of the site work and
expediting the permitting process.
The project was delivered on time and was presented awards by the American Institute
of Architects and the American Correctional Association.
